How many times have you run an LMG event?
As of April 5, 2009, there have been a dozen Library Mini Golf events that we have hosted in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Iowa and we have more than a dozen events planned for the rest of 2009 around the country. We hope to scale our resources up to eventually be able to host 80 to 120 events a year and our goal is to have cumulatively raised $1 million for libraries by the end of 2010.
How do you help the Library prepare before the event?
We send you the first hole to set up in your lobby up to four months in advance of the event. As your sponsor commitments come in, we update a web page for your event on our site with sponsor logos. You may use this tool for getting more sponsors. The more support you have early, the easier it is for businesses to feel comfortable supporting the event. It’s a lot like building a shopping mall, once you have the first few anchors, the rest are much easier to secure. We can also help you with other marketing ideas. Just ask!
How do I send you my sponsors' logos?
Artwork should be emailed to john@libraryminigolf.com in digital format. Any format will be accepted (.jpg, .gif, .pdf, .doc, .tiff, .eps, .ai, .psd - to name some of the more common formats.) File sizes should be a minimum of 50Kb and maximum of 5Mb, keeping in mind that the larger the file size, the better looking a logo will be on signage. If in doubt, however, send what you have and we will advise you. If a sponsor uses a company that prints their business graphics, the printer can assist in providing files. The logos will be used on the scorecard (approximately 2" wide) and on an 11" x 17" sign.
How long does it take to set up a typical course?
For most libraries, it takes each person about 30 to 40 minutes to set up each hole. A handful of volunteers can set up the course in 2-3 hours. Breakdown takes much less time than setup, typically an hour or less.
What would you like to see happen with LMG events in the future?
We see advances in three areas: course design and obstacles, more structured help for libraries in their sponsor activities, and providing access to national or regional sponsors.
To ensure a great event for new and repeat libraries, we will continually evolve the course designs and obstacles. LMG will be improving marketing support for libraries to be able to recruit local sponsors. Also, in the future, we hope to have a few national/regional organizations partner with us to lessen the burden on the local libraries to line up sponsors.
We can provide a tremendous value to the sponsors if they are willing to help libraries across the country. For the cost of a single ad in a local paper, sponsors can get recognition for months before the event on the library’s and Library Mini Golf websites – visited by thousands of people . This is in addition to all the people who will see the sponsors’ materials in the library. We will be expanding our efforts in this area so that all future libraries that choose to host events will benefit.
What does a library need to do to get started doing a Library Mini Golf event?
Contact us! We'll help you get started right away. There are still many weekend dates in 2009 available. We do recommend starting the process about 4 months before the date of the event. This allows enough time to line up the maximum number of sponsors to make the event a success. You may call (941) 204-0006 [Eastern Time] or send an email. (see our full contact info)
What are the rules of play?
- The ball may be moved the length of one putter head from any rail or obstacle without penalty.
- Please use a limit of 7 stokes per hole for adults. Try to keep it to fewer than 20 for kids.
- If the ball jumps the fairway – play the next shot from the spot where the ball jumped the fairway and take a one stroke penalty.
- If the ball is snagged in an obstacle – free the ball and play from that spot. No penalty.
- After all members of the group reach the putting green, the one nearest the hole should putt first and continue to putt until the ball is in cup. Do not take turns on the putting greens.
- Have Fun!
Is there anything else I should know?
LMG is delighted to help libraries offer their communities a great way to spend a few hours with family and friends while providing financial support, particularly in these tough economic times. We'll supply everything you need for your community to have a wonderful day at the library while you raise significant funds.
How long did it take to set up the Downer's Grove Public Library course?
The Downers Grove Public Library is just a massive, beautiful library and was the largest facility we have ever used for an event, so it took us a little longer to set up. Two of us from LMG and about six volunteers worked for about 2 ½ hours the evening before the event, after the library closed for the day, and then my LMG partner and I worked for about 2 hours the morning of the event to finish. We broke down the entire course after the event in about 75 minutes.
